@jherr For example, some effects are initial effects, that should be executed *once* when the app starts. But there is no event handler for this (except maybe onLoad?), so we have to execute the side-effect outside of all components, which can feel like a code smell.

Yay finally got ESM webpack package builds working properly. I was having problem with externals & tree shaking. Now webpack uses ESM imports across everything in the module, then is imported by the parent & shaken. No Babel processing needed
